| Description | Through California Poets in the Schools, professional poets are trained to lead writing workshops in classrooms across the state. These mentors work closely with classroom teachers to integrate the creative use of language into other academic subject lessons. With this grant, California Poets will subsidize the cost of its programming for those Oakland and San Francisco public schools which would be otherwise challenged to cover costs. It will reach approximately 1,500 low-income, English language learner, and special needs students and enable reluctant readers and writers to build their language skills. |
