While California’s 2015 budget includes the state’s first-ever Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the legislature allocated only $600,000 for outreach. Golden State Opportunity Foundation formed in response, taking on an aggressive outreach campaign to reach those eligible who might otherwise remain uninformed. The campaign aimed to maximize use of the state EITC, expand use of the Federal EITC, and increase the number of eligible Californians who receive free tax-preparation services. Nearly 380,000 people obtained the state credit, with approximately 58,000 of claimants filing their state taxes for the first time.
