Playworks teaches schools how to integrate cooperation and physical play in ways that help support well-behaved classrooms. It helps teachers and school staff to establish norms for respectful social behavior while Playworks’ coaches model and support cooperative learning. Evaluations of the program have shown that it provides more time for classroom teaching, reduces bullying, and increases physical activity. This grant supports Playworks professional development and coaching at eight high-need elementary schools in Oakland and San Francisco.
