Description

The six-acre Peralta Hacienda Historical Park—once home to the Peralta family rancho—serves as one of the few open spaces in the dense Oakland neighborhood of Fruitvale. Park programs honor the site’s Ohlone and rancho period and reflect more recent history as well. The Friends of Peralta Hacienda now seek to upgrade the park’s historic core with an innovative Museum Without Walls. The proposed building will contain interpretative panels that swing open or shut to enclose the space. The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the Friends a challenge grant to aid this capital project and the Friends must raise $300,000 by mid-2015 to receive the second installment. The Fund’s grant helps the Friends to meet this deadline so that this park can continue to offer quality cultural and open space to its neighbors and the broader community.
