California Shakespeare Theater places resident artists in East Bay schools where they teach acting and perform scenes with students. Resident artists work with teachers to connect history, reading, writing, and science lessons with the featured plays, adding an arts component to classroom learning. Professional development workshops are also made available to teachers. This grant supports California Shakespeare Theater’s residencies in those Oakland schools that serve large numbers of low-income students, increasing opportunities for quality arts education.
