Facing History and Ourselves engages students of diverse backgrounds in examining racism, prejudice, and anti-Semitism so that they might become more informed citizens. The organization’s Bay Area achievements include working with more than 2,600 teachers to reach 190,000 middle and high school students. This grant supports in-depth work with four schools in the San Francisco and Oakland unified school districts, fostering collaboration among teachers, promoting student engagement, and increasing school-wide academic achievements while supporting teachers’ efforts to meet Common Core standards. This work includes intensive summer seminars and one-on-one assistance for teachers.
