Tibetan Association of Northern California
Program Area(s) | |
Description | The greater Bay Area hosts one of the six largest communities of Tibetans in North America. A number of these refugees are actively involved in the Tibetan Association of Northern California, producing Tibetan language, music, and dance classes for adults and children. In 2009, Tibetan community members raised the funds to purchase an old office building in Richmond for use as a Tibetan Cultural Center. The group is currently working to bring the building up to code in phases. During a city inspection, it emerged that the building’s HVAC system was riddled with mold. This capital grant helps to cover the unexpected and significant cost of mold abatement. |
