With support from Walter & Elise Haas Fund, the San Francisco Education Fund successfully launched the San Francisco Teacher Residency in 2010 in order to recruit, train, place, and retain quality teachers. Each year, the program recruits, prepares, and places 24 teachers in hard-to-staff schools. These teachers commit to teaching in the San Francisco Unified School District for at least three years after their residency ends. In exchange, they receive financial incentives and extensive classroom support. This effort helps to keep SFUSD staffed with teachers of distinction.
