San Francisco Coalition of Essential Small Schools
Program Area(s) | |
Description | In 2009, a group of teachers at Sherman Elementary School in San Francisco studied a new approach to teaching reading and writing that was developed at Columbia University’s Teachers College. This balanced literacy model had a dramatic effect on students’ reading proficiency and has since been shared across an additional five San Francisco public schools. With support from the Fund, the San Francisco Coalition of Essential Small Schools helped these six schools to form a support network. This grant allows for advanced training, professional development, and other opportunities to further spread this effective Educational model. |
