Program Area(s) | |
Description | This capital grant helps to restore and upgrade the historic Haas-Lilienthal House, built for William and Bertha Haas in 1886. Walter Haas resided at the house with them when he first moved to San Francisco. Funds raised will be used to address a range of serious maintenance issues and to make required life safety, structural, and ADA upgrades. Money will also go towards the House’s educational mission, including creating new audio tours, videos, and interpretative panels. The House’s revised program will deepen its chronicling of San Francisco’s pioneering Jews and draw parallels to contemporary immigrant stories. A full time director will be hired as well. |
