Oakland Unified School District received major state and philanthropic support to strengthen and expand its health, science, technology, engineering, and math pathways. These grants enable the district to build rich teacher-development programs in these subject areas. With this 2015 grant from the Fund, OUSD builds on these programs to bring the same development opportunities to teachers of other subjects. Teacher teams will engage in weeklong externships in subject-related industries. At the end of the week, teams receive structured support and scheduled time to build curricula based on their experiences, improving the quality of public education in Oakland.
