In the Exploratorium’s Teacher Institute, new science teachers have the opportunity to learn from their more experienced peers. All of this subject-specific training focuses on a learning-by-doing model, using Exploratorium exhibits as instructional tools. Now based in an impressive new building at Pier 15, the Exploratorium looks to expand its opportunities to develop the skills of participating science teachers. In 2012, the Exploratorium piloted a training program for mid-career teachers. The Fund’s grant supports these efforts to retain teachers and prepare them to enter the Exploratorium’s leadership program.
