In 2012-13, the Oakland Unified School District launched a blended, personalized-learning pilot that sought to transform underperforming schools through personalized learning. Participating schools received supportive technology while teachers benefitted from professional development and coaching. This pilot, Blending Learning Initiative, recently received a three-year grant from Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC). A grant from the W&EHF adds support to the Initiative’s initial discovery and planning phases and helps meet the local match required by the NGLC grant.
