For decades, Susan Kagehiro has worked to improve educational opportunity. Before joining the Fund she held positions in the San Francisco Unified School District, starting off in an experimental role coordinating city and school district partnerships. From there, she moved into the Office of the Superintendent, working as liaison to the Board of Education and Chief of Staff. She also managed the district’s Early Education Department’s Out-of-School-Time program, serving low-income families and providing for year-round youth programming in nearly 100 San Francisco classrooms.
Before Susan’s time assisting the district, she conducted education-field research for MDRC, a national social policy research organization, and for MPR Associates. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and her Master’s in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
