Frances N. Phillips
Frances Phillips has more than 20 years of experience working with artists and building community access to arts and arts education. Prior to joining the Fund and helping to launch the Creative Work Fund, she served as Executive Director of Intersection for the Arts and Director of the Poetry Center and American Poetry Archives at San Francisco State University. With Stan Hutton, Frances published The Nonprofit Kit for Dummies, a guide to starting and managing nonprofit organizations. She also has authored three books of poetry, co-edits the Grantmakers in the Arts Reader, and reviews poetry, fiction, and nonfiction for national newspapers and journals.
Frances serves on the San Francisco Unified School District’s (SFUSD’s) Public Education Enrichment Fund Community Advisory Committee and co-chairs the SFUSD’s Arts Education Master Plan advisory committee. She completed her masters in creative writing at San Francisco State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in literature and languages from Reed College. When she’s not working, Frances finds joy in reading and writing poetry and attending a wide range of arts events.
