Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
Program Area(s) | |
Description | Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) presents contemporary performing, visual, and media arts programming. Its staff selects 100 fellows each year who identify and explore such large-scale questions as “Where is our public imagination?” or “Can we make creative dissent matter?” Over 12 months, the fellows make artwork, produce symposia, and develop other public programs that explore their chosen questions. W&EHF’s grant supports, in part, YBCA’s intensive after-school program for teens, which mimics the work of the adult fellows, with 15 teens investigating the year’s questions, studying multiple artistic disciplines, and creating a public project. Participants also are trained in movement-building and learn about the role of arts in political activism. An in-school program at a South of Market elementary school further extends the reach of YBCA’s education program. |
