Western Center on Law and Poverty

Program Area(s)
Description

Western Center on Law and Poverty works to implement legislation to increases vulnerable Californians’ access to government benefits. Its numerous legal victories include two wins related to benefits for CalFresh, California’s food stamp program: one increasing the gross income limit to 200% of the federal poverty line and the other repealing the lifetime ban imposed on people with drug felony convictions. In 2016, Western Center seeks to increase CalFresh participation by 7%, simplify the application process for in-school and after-school meals, and monitor implementation of several bills critical for CalFresh recipients.
