Implemented in the Bay Area by the Community Housing Development Corporation, Ways to Work makes car ownership affordable for those working poor families who need a car to meet employment and family obligations. The program provides low-interest auto loans of up to $6,000 to people who would otherwise not be able to secure affordable financing. It incorporates up-front financial and budgeting education, assistance in car selection, and ongoing support during the repayment period. In Ways to Work’s first year in the Bay Area, it aims to make 30 auto loans, helping the working poor to improve their economic security.
