Trellis Education works with California school districts to recruit, retain, and support the development of effective science, technology, English, and math (STEM) teachers. It recruits teachers committed to the profession, providing them with professional development, mentoring, and assistance covering credentialing costs. Assessment further helps teachers set goals and track their progress. As a result, participants complete the Trellis program with no teacher-related debt; experience in high-need schools; mentoring support; a California teaching credential; and a free Master of Arts or Master of Science degree. The grant from the Walter & Elise Haas Fund supports Trellis’s work in Oakland and San Francisco school districts.
