The Litquake Foundation

Program Area(s)
Description

The decline of independent bookstores leaves readers with fewer opportunities to hear writers read from and discuss their work. The Litquake Foundation counteracts this by presenting an eclectic range of authors throughout the year and via its annual literary festival. This festival culminates in a “Lit Crawl” of 100 readings hosted in eclectic Mission District venues in a single evening. The Fund supports this free event and Litquake’s efforts to engage a truly diverse audience. For example, its 2015 festival incorporated partnerships with the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, Museum of the African Diaspora, the Latino literary magazine Huizache, and Kearny Street Workshop, which serves pan-Asian artists.
