In just three years, the Kitchen, a synagogue without walls, has become a popular “middle” space, authentically Jewish, devoted to social justice, and tapping into a creative energy hard to find in most houses of worship. Participants in the Kitchen include LGBT Jews, Jewish professionals, educators, young families, and older Jews looking for a creative way to engage in Jewish rituals while supporting progressive ideals and social change. Its work has resulted in an explosion of creative ways to bring Judaism to the public square.
