| Description | The Beat Within provides weekly writing, art, and conversation workshops to incarcerated youth. It publishes their writing and artwork in a bi-monthly magazine for people involved with the juvenile justice system of all ages. The Beat Within workshops, led by volunteer and paid facilitators, help youth in detention to reflect on their behavior and values. By sharing their stories, the publication also works to shift the public’s perceptions of detained youth. |
