SVARA

Program Area(s)
Description

A “traditionally radical yeshiva,” Svara was created to build the confidence of Jews who see themselves on the fringes of Jewish life. Through accessible yet scholarly Torah study, Svara creates a modern Jewish learning institution that welcomes LGBTQ Jews and all individuals who experience life as an outsider. This grant supports Svara in delivering a Bay Area program, which will include a five-day summer retreat followed by six weeks of evening study and a public lecture. The program will be open to everyone, but will focus on reaching local educators and community leaders who work with LGBTQ organizations.
