Spanish Speaking Unity Council operates the Peralta Service Corporation in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood. This social enterprise uses contracts with private companies to secure landscaping and public-space maintenance jobs for low-skilled individuals who face high-barriers to employment. The Unity Council is transforming the Peralta model to one of six-month transitional employment leading to permanent mainstream jobs. This grant supports the planning, curriculum development, and pilot class for this new program.
