The Unity Council, a long-standing community development corporation in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood, assists its primarily Latino clientele with workforce and asset-building services. It offers financial strength and job-training programs, support for pregnant and parenting teens, and youth career services. It also has developed several housing projects, a social enterprise, six Head Start Centers, and a career center to improve the economic security of the families in Fruitvale.
