Sixth Street Photography Workshop

Program Area(s)
Description

In 1992, photographer Tom Ferenz began offering photography workshops to residents of the Pontiac Hotel, a low-income residence in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. The resulting Sixth Street Photography Workshop continues to meet twice weekly, instructing some 20 low-income Tenderloin and South of Market residents in photography. Many participants have been homeless, many are military veterans, and some have emerged as excellent artists. In 2015-16, participants’ work will be exhibited at the Hall of Justice and in the program’s new, grant helps to enrich Bay Area children through both ArtEsteem classes and the mural project, to be continued in honor of Ramos.
