The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America delivers nuanced educational resources and trainings about Israel. Jews in progressive communities are often uncertain of how to maintain their commitments to justice within the framework of Israel’s politics and the Occupation. As a result, many Jewish leaders choose to avoid the topic of Israel, robbing the discourse of thoughtful progressive voices and stifling progressive Jews’ need to explore their own relationships with Israel. To help open conversation, this grant funds three social justice salons, a lecture and discussion series, and a daylong conference that will encourage discussion of Israel during the 50th anniversary of the Occupation.
