San Francisco’s high cost of living and shortage of affordable housing make it challenging for San Francisco Unified School District to attract and retain teachers. In response, the school district, the Mayor’s Office, United Educators of San Francisco, the American Federation of Teachers, and the AFL-CIO joined together to develop housing for local teachers. This grant provides for a project manager to coordinate and develop a plan for financing and constructing a teacher housing complex. The School District’s effort is part of a multipronged housing strategy that includes down-payment and mortgage assistance plus housing counseling for both buyers and renters.
