Description | San Francisco is the first city or county in the country to launch a government project designed to assess and reform how fines and fees impact the city’s most vulnerable residents. This Financial Justice Project, beginning its second year in 2018, plans to deepen its impact by conducting a first-in-the-country review of all fines imposed and fees levied. It will flag those costs that place an undue burden on low-income residents, eliminating or reforming many and narrowing in on solutions that allow the county to structure charges so that they do not strip wealth from low-income people. |
