Description

Public Rights Project (PRP) supports the legal arm of state and local government in enforcing residents’ rights to economic, racial, gender, and environmental justice. It addresses the gap between laws and the rights actually enjoyed by communities. Predatory financial practices and rampant discrimination in the workplace are just two examples of practices that infringe on the core rights of communities and prevent economic mobility — almost always targeting low-income people of color. Giving local government the tools to tackle these violations at a systemic level could fundamentally change the economic outlook for large groups of people. This grant supports the Oakland City Attorney’s office in enforcing residents’ legal rights.
