In partnership with East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, Open Architecture Collaborative is managing a “Design Dash” to revitalize the San Pablo commercial corridor in Oakland. Residents from the area were invited to workshops to envision improvements to the safety, appeal, and pedestrian-friendliness of the area. Six proposals based on this work were funded with modest grants through the Collaborative, which then connected residents with architects, artists, and designers to help them bring those ideas to fruition. The Collaborative also trained architects, artists, and designers in how to work with community members, with the ultimate goal being to transfer leadership skills to community members.
