| Description | Each year Oaktown Jazz provides after school jazz instruction to 50 young musicians from across Oakland and beyond. Approximately half of its students come from low-income families and receive full or partial scholarships. Youth work with mentor-teachers who challenge them to excel. They play alongside professionals, study improvisation, and attend clinics with well-known touring musicians. Oaktown Jazz’s advanced performance ensemble performs at community events, expanding arts education and performance opportunities for local youth. |
