The English Language Learner and Multilingual Achievement (ELLMA) office of the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) provides professional development to those district teachers serving students with limited English proficiency. The office seeks to accelerate academic achievement for newcomer students by working across the district to develop, support, and retain teachers who are best prepared to offer the needed support. As increasing numbers of students enter district schools with limited English proficiency, this program is one way in which OUSD is striving to deliver equitable education for all.
