Oakland Promise seeks to ensure that Oakland children have the expectation, skills, and resources to complete college and launch successful careers. Its Brilliant Baby program advances the healthy development of children by opening $500 college savings account for babies born into MediCal-eligible families and by offering parents one-on-one financial coaching and a savings match program. Its K2C program awards an early college scholarship of $100 to every student, supports teachers and school leaders in helping to promote college, and assists families in opening their own college savings accounts.
