Among its services to regional grantmakers, Northern California Grantmakers has long managed the Arts Loan Fund. Loans to arts organizations from this fund get turned around relatively fast, offer low interest rates, and benefit small and midsize nonprofits that would otherwise struggle to secure commercial loans to cover up-front costs for benefits or special performances. While money cycles back into the loan fund as loans are repaid, the resource gradually shrinks due to administrative overhead. The W&EHF contributed to help create the Arts Loan Fund and continues to support it to maintain this resource for arts nonprofits.
