Description

Living Jazz earns renown for its jazz camps and for producing In the Name of Love, its annual musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King. For the last decade it also has offered a free, in-school choral music program for second- and third-graders in three Oakland Unified School District schools that serve low-income students. The 14-week choral program climaxes with the children’s performance at In the Name of Love. In 2015, Living Jazz piloted spring term rhythm classes to help young people prepare to enroll in instrumental music classes when they reach the fourth grade. This effective rhythm project will expand to all three schools Living Jazz serves in 2016.
