Kiva Microfunds

Program Area(s)
Description

More than one million people have lent over a half-billion dollars to more than 1.5 million borrowers around the globe via Kiva Microfunds. While the non-profit organization’s community development partners do charge interest, their new Kiva Zip program improves the model by directly facilitating microloans to small-business owners without any interest charge. Kiva Zip uses a network of trustees to vouch for borrowers and recommend them to the program. This grant supports a multiyear initiative to dramatically increase Kiva Zip lending in the Bay Area.
