Housing and Economic Rights Advocates
Program Area(s) | |
Description | Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (HERA) protects low-income Californians from discrimination and economic abuses. It provides legal rights counseling on a range of issues that keep Californians from meeting their financial obligations or even potentially from retaining their housing; these include court fees, pay day loans, bail bonds, medical debt, and—in a recently expanded program—estate planning as a tool for development of intergenerational economic security. The organization’s work with clients informs its policy and systems change efforts at the local, state and national levels. |
