Description | In fall 2017, Fine Arts Museums presented Teotihuacan: City of Water, City of Fire at the de Young Museum. The museum’s staff used this major touring exhibit based on pre-Aztec artifacts both as an opportunity to experiment with the de Young’s docent program and to develop connections to Spanish-speaking residents. A flexible docent training focused on Teotihuacan was offered to Spanish-speaking community members; as part of this, docents designed their own tours of the exhibit, assisted with school and family programs, and led visitors through the galleries. These docents are being encouraged to continue their relationship with the de Young after the Teotihuacan exhibit closes in February 2018. |
