Description | With the launch of the Financial Justice Initiative, San Francisco will become the first city in the country to assess and reform how tickets, fines, and fees affect low-income residents. As the entity in charge of revenue collection for San Francisco, the Office of the Treasurer and Tax Collector is ideally positioned to lead the effort to make fees more equitable, alleviating their often disastrous effect on low-income families. The Financial Justice Initiative plans to spend this project’s inaugural year developing a finer understanding of the problem and potential solutions, developing a robust communications strategy, and implementing at least one reform. |
