Exploratorium
Program Area(s) | |
Description | The Exploratorium Teacher Institute operates a nationally recognized teacher-training program for first- and second-year science and math teachers. In 2015, it heavily recruited to ensure that at least one-third of its program participants taught in high-poverty secondary schools in Oakland and San Francisco. It concurrently revised its curriculum to specifically support those teachers. This grant helps the Teacher Institute to continue its work with urban schools and to create and test new lessons, materials, and approaches that connect more strongly to the experiences of Oakland and San Francisco students. So doing, the Exploratorium Teacher Institute intends to strengthen the skills of urban science teachers and keep them teaching in low-income communities. |
