For 17 years, the Hugo Hotel in SOMA featured an art installation in which pieces of furniture — one of them a blue couch — appeared to be flying out of building’s windows. When the Hugo was torn down to make way for affordable housing, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts commissioned Epiphany Productions to create a performance about the neighborhood’s transformation. The result, Epiphany Production’s “Last Blue Couch in the Sky,” premieres in June 2017. This grant partially supports six free performances of the work at outdoor South of Market sites. Epiphany Productions celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2017 and this piece helps to mark the occasion.
