Description | HOPE SF’s goal is to qualitatively improve the lives of residents in five severely distressed public housing projects. This 15- to 20-year project, when complete, will connect nearly 2,500 public housing families to the city’s economic, social, and cultural life. In 2014, the first families moved into new apartments in Hunter’s View, with the second phase of housing underway there and ground broken for additional housing near Candlestick Park. Other signs of progress include reduced absenteeism at public schools serving HOPE SF children and improved health indicators for children and adults. HOPE SF was invited to join Living Cities’ prestigious “Integration Initiative” and launched a Learning Center with San Francisco State University to ensure all lessons are captured and shared. A key lesson so far is the importance of using a trauma-informed approach for everything from community building to providing services. |
