Each One Reach One provides youth incarcerated in San Francisco Juvenile Hall’s maximum-security unit with an intensive two-week playwriting program. Participants meet daily with artist mentors who encourage expression through metaphor—a technique that allows students to address emotionally challenging content without revealing details. Following the program, student playwrights see their plays performed by professional actors. Each One Reach One also teaches playwriting and painting classes to youth on probation. These programs and classes help troubled youth to process trauma through artistic expression.
