Duniya Dance and Drum Company blends traditional folk dance from the Punjab region of India with Guinean dance and drum. In a reprise of a modest but successful 2013 African music and arts festival, the company will stage free performances in McLaren Park. The event should draw members of the region’s mostly low-income African community and also build Duniya’s capacity to produce large-scale, accessible events. While the original event only reached around 300 people, the African immigrant community was excited to join together and introduce themselves and their issues to the broader community. Featured artists were paid respectful fees.
