Description | Artists arriving in the Bay Area from Africa often gravitate to Diamano Coura, an acclaimed West African dance company founded in 1975 by Zakaraya Diouf, Ph.D., and his wife Naomi Diouf. Both Dioufs are known to generations of African American dancers who have studied with them at their studio, at Berkeley High, or at Laney College. Diamano Coura has operated with a modest administrative structure and dependency on volunteers. This grant enables the Company to hire a part-time administrative coordinator who can help set up systems and policies and manage promotions. An advancement consultant will advise the staff and board on fundraising and board development. |
