DataArts grew out of concerns by the Pew Charitable Trusts and other major arts funders in the Philadelphia area about the lack of consistent, quality, comparable data in the arts. The project now includes data from 10,000 arts organizations in 14 states and provides data synopses that arts organizations can submit with grant proposals. It has rebuilt its database to be more compatible with other systems and has begun training arts organizations in how to analyze and use their data. Many of the Fund’s arts grantees participate in DataArts. At a time when nonprofit organizations are asked to justify their value through data, DataArts arms them with useful tools and trainings.
