Creative Growth Art Center enables artists with developmental disabilities to participate in daily art-making workshops led by accomplished, contemporary artists. Developmentally disabled artists receive stipends from the State of California to participate in these programs, plus additional funds when their artworks sell. A number of participants produce work of great complexity and beauty collected by individuals and museums. Creative Growth celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2014. In addition to seven high-profile openings, it will be launching a major disabilities film festival and expanding its new Saturday Art Program for young people with disabilities. These activities promote the critical exchange between program participants and the public at large, fostering greater understanding and inclusion of artists with disabilities.
