| Description | Artist Ruben Guzman is collaborating with Centro Legal de la Raza (Centro Legal) on The Ahuilti Project, producing a sculpture in the traditional art form of cartonería (papier-mâché), addressing the theme of immigration. Centro Legal is a community-based legal services center that works to advance the rights of immigrant, low-income, and Latino communities through free and low cost legal advice and representation. It is providing Mr. Guzman with access to immigrant youth and families to be interviewed for the project; and the finished work will be displayed in Centro Legal’s lobby. Ruben Guzman has been a practitioner of the traditional Mexican art of cartonería for some 25 years: his work is in the collections of major institutions. |
