San Francisco’s Mission District Carnaval parade, under threat of discontinuation, found a new fiscal sponsor in Brava! for Women in the Arts. They helped preserve the neighborhood’s longstanding Latin American cultural identity and hosted a scaled back parade in 2016. Now, the Fund is investing in building capacity through a focus on recruiting and training a next generation of leaders. In 2017, Carnaval will return to the Mission District with seventy community groups already have signed up to participate. This event provides thousands of people free access to a diverse cultural celebration.
